Don’t get confused! A few days ago SJCAM announced the SJCAM M20, and now a “M20” camera hit the stores. So what does this cam offer?
I’m still trying to find out who the manufacturer is. The camera looks a bit like the Firefly 6S when it comes to design and buttons, but I don’t have confirmation. The data I collected is from several different retailers but many points raise some questions which I also stated:

M20 Specs

Image Sensor:
According the several sources the camera features 12 MP Sony sensor. Although the description on several pages says it is the Sony IMX117 (the sensor used in the GoPro Hero4) I don’t believe that info, as the Novatek 96660 chip is not working with that sensor. I believe it is the Sony IMX078 (same one used in SJ5000X & Firefly 6S)

Chipset:
The M20 uses a Novatek 96660 chip, a chipset used in many action cameras such as SJ5000X, Git2, Firefly 6S,…

Lens:
170 degree wide angle lens

Video Resolution & Frame Rate:
Max. resolution is 4K at 24fps – interpolated as the chip is not capable of native 4K!
The M20 also features 2K at 30fps and 1080 at a max. of 60fps.
Many cameras featuring these settings also allow 720p at 120 fps, but for the M20 60 fps is stated max. in 720p resolution.

Recording Format:
The information differs if the camera records in .mov or .mp4.

Photo Resolution & Format:
Some retailers state 16MP is the max. photo size; as all infos hint it is a 12MP sensor, I expect 12 MP photos.

Display:
The M20 offers a 2″ live view LCD display.

Battery:
Battery has a capacity of 1000 mAh, I couldn’t find out if they are compatible with the SJCAM batteries (also used in GitUp and EKEN H9 camera)

Storage:
The information available also differs as some state 32GB max. and others 64GB max. micro SD cards.

Connectivity & Ports:
The camera features a micro USB port, A/V out via USB is possible, not sure about mic-in;
and a micro HDMI port for HD-video output.
The M20 also features Wifi for smartphone connection and control. The App suggested for is camera is called “CANANY” and available for Android and iOS.

Dimension & Weight:
53 x 39 x 51 mm

Special Features:
According to one photo of the menu, the camera will have some kind of anti-shake feature, according to some product pictures it will be a built-in gyro similar to the ones in the SJ500X, Git2 and Firefly 6S.

Accessories
Similar to other action cameras, the M20 comes with a huge pack of accessories such as 30m underwater case and several mounts:

Retailer/Price Comparison:

Conclusion

Hard to say anything about this camera: The data is quite confusing as there is different information on the retailer’s website and the data provided is inconsistent. Furthermore it is hard to find out who the actual manufacturer of the camera is to confirm the information. Hence it will be quite difficult to get adequate Firmware update. I’ll try to get the info right and will update this post – stay tuned!
