Photo Comparison
Here are some photos and frame grabs to compare. You can download the original files here.
Below is a photo comparison YI Lite vs Xiaomi Mijia. As you can see the image of YI Lite is larger, due to the higher resolution of the sensor, which furthermore is a 4:3 aspect ratio sensor. Xiaomi Mijia has an 8 MP sensor in 16:9 aspect ratio. This has little impact on video resolution as 8MP 16:9 is enough for 4K, but it has an impact on the photos. On the other hand Mijia offers RAW photos, which is not possible with YI Lite.
Below is a frame grab taken from the video. More examples are available for download.
Conclusion
In general I had the impression that YI Lite photos and videos are sharper than Xiaomi Mijia. Furthermore image stabilisation (EIS) works better on YI Lite. Hence Xiaomi Mijia offers 4K with 30fps (YI Lite only 20fps), so if you consider buying a gimbal a combination with Xiaomi Mijia might be better. Same if you don’t like the fisheye effect, Xiaomi Mijia has a narrower field of view. These are my advantages for each camera:
sharper photos / video
better EIS
higher photo resolution
better app
more advanced firmware
4K with 30fps
higher fps in HD
RAW photo
longer battery life
larger screen
