In this blogpost I want to sum up all Xiaomi Yi Accessories. This article is constantly updated with new products, price comparisons & links to reviews.
This post is about original accessories from Xiaomi or 3rd party accessories especially designed for Xiaomi Yi camera. I wrote another article about “My favorite action camera mounts”, which can be used for the Xiaomi Yi and any other action camera.

Remote Control
Xiaomi Yi Remote Control & Monopod Set
If you want to remote control your camera, but don’t want to get our your smartphone all the time, you can use this remote control from Xiaomi. It’s connected via bluetooth, firmware 1.1.0 or above is required. You can switch between photo and video mode and start recording / take a picture. As it was asked many times: It is not possible to turn on/off the camera.

YI Handheld Gimbal
YI Handheld Gimbal
YI introduced its YI Handheld gimbal which is compatible with YI 4K Action Camera as well as YI Action Camera. Electronic Image stabilization is not available on YI Action Camera (on YI 4K it is available). But anyway a gimbal solution will give better results. The bottom features a standard 1/4″ tripod thread, so you can attach it to the monopod to use it handheld. Or mount it on a suction cup mount or any other mounting gear.

Floating Grip

I also got a lot of questions if the monopod is waterproof. Well it is not made for it, the remote is definitely not waterproof. For that cases Xiaomi introduced the floating grip, which can not extend as the monopod but as the name gives it away already, lets the cam float on the water in case you lose it. The most known 3rd party product for all action cameras is probably the yellow Bobber or similar.

As the action cameras usually run out of battery before their storage is full, an extra battery is highly recommended. Double chargers are also available to charge batteries while camera is in use.

Be careful when looking for bags as most of them are fitted for GoPros and their accessories. There are spacial recesses for batteries and backpacks but these parts for the Yi camera have a different size!

Hand Mount

I like the hand mount a lot as you place the camera on your wrist and still have your hands free. I use it while swimming or riding a motorcycle. The original Yi hand mount is made from neoprene, so you can use it in the water. The mount can turn 360°, if you buy a third party product, make sure it has the function as well as mounting is way easier. You can also turn the camera to film your face.

You’ve probably seen one of my comparison videos which I usually record on my bike. I also like aluminum accessories as they last longer than their plastic counterparts. I was surprised that the original YI handlebar mount has a 360° rotate-able head, the aluminum 3rd party products don’t have that feature, so that’s a big plus for the original YI accessory.

The chest strap is a great tool to achieve great first person shots, it is not as shaky as the hand mount. The original Yi chest strap is made of neoprene and therefore suitable for watersports usage. There are many 3rd party products available, I personally like the straps from neopine.

Also great for first person POV the head mount. Also for the head strap there are 3rd party accessories available. If you want to underline you are using a YI camera, the original mount gives you the opportunity as the straps are covered in YI logos.

Many people are missing a LCD screen on the Xiaomi Yi, now there is a 3rd party product available. It is similar to the LCD backpack on the GoPro and there is also a battery backpack available.

Domes seem to be a very popular and often talked about accessory for the Yi Action Camera. They create a unique look when you want to shoot above and below the water line. The model shown can be found here:

Silicon Soft Rubber Case
Xiaomi Yi Rubber Case
The rubber case gives you more protection for your camera. I prefer not to use the underwater case as it adds an additional layer over the lens. I ordered a black one also to have a dark cover for my white camera (e.g. on a stage).

Aluminum Housing
Xiaomi Yi Aluminum Frame
A great product which I also ordered, not only because of protection but because of the sweet GoPro Mount adapter at the bottom. It uses the notch next to the thread for more stability. The adapter can also be used without the frame and has a shorter screw than several other adapters.

This aluminium housing is also pretty cool. It gives a bit more protection than the frame. It has the same GoPro mount adapter as the frame. Additionally there is a thread for an UV filter and you can attach a cap.

And a third option is available. Also more protection than the frame with an additional clod shoe for accessories such as LED light or optical viewfinder. What a pity that it doesn’t come with the GoPro mount adapter, but here the mount is built in. There is also a thread for a filter.

You sure want to get an adapter to use all the available mounts (which can be used for SJcam or GoPro) with your Xiaomi Yi camera. 1/4″ to GoPro mount adapters are available for under 2 USD.
