GitUp Git3 – Rumors
Some pics of Git3 were already posted by GitUp on their Facebook site which show the first specs of the new camera. Also some postings from GitUp in several forums reveal additional information.
First of, Git3 won’t be a native 4K action camera. It will feature a Novatek chip and a 12MP sensor, most likely the IMX117 from Sony, which is also used in Hero4 & hero5 as well as Andoer C5, Thieye T5 & SJCAM SJ7 Star. I think it’s a bit disappointing to see the new cam not being capable of 4K video resolution, especially when rumors are true and a Sony sensor capable of 4K is used.
The camera will feature external microphone, so it will either get a miniUSB or USB-C port since mic.in is not available with microUSB. Same as Git2 the successor will also feature wifi and electronic image stabilization.
Git3 will be larger than Git2, almost the size of GoPro Hero5. Battery will be different compared to Git2 to allow a higher capacity. Sources say the battery will be 1200 mAh, that’s about the same as Hero5 and a little smaller than YI 4K. Another confirmed feature is a larger 2″ screen compared to the 1,5″ LCD screen of Git2. Some sources say it will be a touch screen. Following photo shows a new GPS feature. Will be interesting to see what you can do with the data. GPS recorded on GoPro Hero5 lets you display speed, G-force and other graphics in your video. Here’s my tutorial for this feature.
Picture in Picture
Another photo released on Facebook shows a picture-in-picture mode. According to the photo, on the upper right of the display there seem to be 2 – 1080p streams.
I recently found some images online which reveal how it’s done. Besides the Git3 holding a 12MP 170° FOV F2.8 Lens, there will be a smaller camera (in fact just a lens without recording module) which wire-connetcs to Git3. This device holds 2MP 130° FOV F2.0 Lens for the second stream.
That’s all the info I gathered so far, stay tuned for further updates!
Here’s a price comparison of the current 2 models, I also published a Git2 Review.
